This is an aquatic species. Its natural habitats are ditches, paddy-fields, ponds and puddles in south-eastern parts of Asia.
This plant has long, not too strong stem with opposite, green and feathery leaves. These leaves are up to over a dozen centimeters long and they are arranged with successive pairs at right angles to each other. The plant has extensive root system.
This species is relatively easy to grow and it very quickly grows and reproduces by runners in optimal conditions. We should systematic cut this species when it grows above the water surface. Then its bottom leaves are yellow, dry and they fall because they don't have enough light. Systematic cutting tops of the plant stimulates development of the runners. This species prefers systematic partial water changes and clean water. We should avoid rapid changes of the water temperature.
It should be planted in the middle or at the back of the aquarium. We can form effective and beautiful terraces with this plant.
This is spermatophyte species but in aquarium we reproduce it vegetatively – by the runners.
