Water Sprite (Ceratopteris Thalictroides)
Other names: Water Hornfern

Natural habitats this species are tropical and subtropical swamps with variable water level, coasts of reservoirs.

It can float on the water surface or it is a semi-aquatic plant. So we can put it in the substrate (then the roots should somewhat protrude above the substrate) or we can put it freely on the water surface.

There is 2 variants of this species: with feathery leaves and with very fine and narrow leaves. Colour of the plant is variable (different shades of green) and it depends on conditions in the aquarium.

We should singly plant this species. It prefers clean water with systematic partial water changes. The substrate should be fertile. When we use this species as floating plant it is recommended for aquarium with fish from Anabantoidei suborder. These fish like to build their nests among this plant.

In aquarium we reproduce it vegetatively - by plantlets (formations of miniaturized plant on the parent plant).
