Biotope in aquarium- a brief characteristic

What is a Biotope

A Biotope - is nothing else but a habitat inhabited by a certain group of organisms. In turn, a biotope aquarium is an attempt to replicate the conditions of this habitat in aquarium reality.

Reproduction not only involves creating an appropriate interior arrangement of the tank but also transferring a group of populations typical for a given environment: plant, animal, or even microorganisms. Thanks to this, the created biotope will maintain a balance between particular processes occurring in this environment.

The „Biotopes” section will contain descriptions of the most important biotopes classified based on the geographical area from which a given ecosystem originates.

Classification of biotopes according to the geographical area:

Reproduction of biotopes in aquaristics - videos

Each biotope reproduction should be preceded by getting to know the appropriate pattern - an ecosystem that we will model.

We should be assisted by videos available on the internet (already so many), made in natural conditions, which perfectly illustrate the topic.

Examples of European biotopes:

  • Łomżyński Landscape Park
  • Liffey River - Ireland
  • Ticino River

Central America Biotopes

South America Biotopes

  • Rio Negro river

African Biotopes

  • Lake Tanganyika

Asian Biotopes

  • Lake Matano

Examples of Australian biotopes

  • mangrove forests in Hinchinbrook Island
  • Seary's Creek

Oceania Biotopes

  • a stream in Papua New Guinea
