Playfair's Panchax (Pachypanchax Playfairii)

Location

This species lives in freshwater and brackish reservoirs with low water level and a lot of plants.

Body description

Body of the fish is elongated, laterally compressed. Colour of the body can be green-yellow with dark back and reddish spots or it could also be orange-red with light dots. Male is more colourful than female. He spreads his scales during the spawning season. Female has dark dot on the dorsal fin.

Temperament and behaviour

This is aggressive species towards small fish. You should keep these fish in a general tank with similar size species or in single species aquarium.

Aquarium decoration

This species prefers aquarium longer than higher. Tank should include low water level, a lot of plants, floating plants and cover because this fish may accident jump out of the aquarium. The species is sensitive to water temperature changes.

Breeding

This is an oviparous species. It spawns in the general aquarium. Female lays eggs on the leaves of plants just below the water surface. The fry hatches after about 11 days. You must immediately start to feed them.
