Location

This freshwater fish lives in rivers, mountain creeks and lakes.

Body description

Colour of the body is variable - from yellow-brown to olive-green. There are two bars on both sides of the body: black and blue. This fish has two dorsal fins and rounded caudal fin. Male is larger than female. He has longer first dorsal fin tips and his caudal fin has red border.

Temperament and behaviour

This is a shoal species. These fish are lively and friendly. Mostly they swim in the upper levels of the aquarium.

Aquarium decoration

This fish likes big and spacious tanks with many plants. There should be many hiding places among roots, branches, and rocks. Light should be dimmed. To do that you can use floating plants or drifting scraps of wood. Fish needs water which is clean and rich in oxygen. Partial water changes (about 30% once a week) and cleaning the bottom of the aquarium should be done regularly.

Breeding

Fish often spawn in groups among leaves. Fry is swimming free after about 10 days after breeding.
