Amazon Frogbit (Limnobium Laevigatum)

Natural habitats this species are standing and slow-moving reservoirs in South and Cantral Americas. This is a floating plant but it can take root in silty bottom.

Its leaves are circular and convex with short leaf stems in cleft and spongy underside. Colour of the leaves is from pale green to bottle green. The plant develops a few leaves in rosulate form. Each leaf has 5 cm diameter. The roots are white, filamentous with about 30 cm length. They hang freely in the water.

This species needs strong light throughout the year and we must do specific microclimate above the water surface - warm and moist air. The leaves are sensitive to condensing steam. The plant grows and adjusts to the new environment quickly. This plant is perfect for aquarium with gouramies, angelfish, discus or herbivorous fish.

This is spermatophyte species but in aquarium we reproduce it vegetatively – by the runners.
