This freshwater fish lives in streams and mountain lakes.
Colour of the body depends on the origin of the fish. This colour is mostly green-olive with light under-side. There is a light stripe on the sides of the fish. The fish has red fins. Body of the fish is elongated. Male is thinner and more colourful than female. He has longer fins compared to the female.
This is shoal, friendly, peaceful, active and hard species. It withstands low water temperature. You can hibernate these fish. They prefer to swim at the middle and top water levels and need free space to swim.
These fish are sensitive to excess chlorine in the water. They prefer tanks with lot of fine-leave plants.
You can stimulate fish to spawn through temporary reduction of the water temperature to around 16-18°C. The spawning takes a several days. The eggs hatch after 2 days. Parents shouldn’t eat the roe.
