This freshwater fish lives in the Amazon and its tributaries.
Male grows up to 7 cm length, female grows up to 6 cm. Colour of the fish depends on its habitat, usually silver-gray to greenish. There are characteristic turquoise spots on the gills cover, under eyes and on the caudal fin. Also there is dark circular spot on the base of the dorsal fin and the middle trunk. This spot is not always visible. Male has brighter colors than female. Males have sharp dorsal and anal fin tips.
This fish likes to spend time in shady places. Usually swims in the middle part of aquarium.
The tank should be decorated with plants which have wide leaves.
During spawning males became aggressive and protect their territory. The female lays eggs on the flat stones or on the wide leaves. The fry hatch after 4-6 days.
