Breeding

This fish is oviparous. Breeding should be made in a separate tank with soft and acidic (pH=5,5-6,5) water. Water should also have temperature of 24-26°C, with clumps of fine-leaved plants or fish hatchery. There should be no light in the tank (eggs and fry are light sensitive). Water should be filtered through peat. Spawning may be in groups. You may also separate males from females and feed them with live food. Then selected pair should be transferred to the spawning tank in the evening. They should spawn next day in the morning. During the spawning the pair often turns upside-down. After the breeding you need to remove parents immediately from that tank because they will eat eggs. The eggs hatch after 1-1,5 days and fry starts swimming 3-4 days later.
