This fish lives in the lakes and ponds.
Male grows up to 8 cm length, female grows up to 7 cm. Colour of the fish is variable, usually yellow-brown. There is a dark circular spot under dorsal fin. There is also a black stripe which intersecting the eye. Male has dorsal and anal fin tips longer than female.
Keyhole Cichlid is recommended for the beginner aquarist. This fish has a very peaceful temperament - it doesn't dig in the substrate and doesn't damage plants.
This fish likes to spend time in shady places and they require dimmed light, that is why the aquarium should have floating plants.
Breeding this species is not easy. Not all pairs will spawn. Fish needs calm atmosphere in the tank when they spawn (they may eat eggs, if stressed out). These fish takes care and protects their offspring for very long time (up 6 months).
