This freshwater species lives in subtropical mountain rivers and creeks in China and Vietnam.
Colour of the body is gray-brown with dark spots. The body of the fish tapers towards the tail. There are widely spaced, protruding eyes on the head. All fins have dark and transparent borders. The pectoral and pelvic fins are round, flat, fleshy, placed one behind the other. The pectoral fins are larger than the pelvic fins. These fins function as a sucker and they hold the fish in place. There is no sexual dimorphism.
This is peaceful and friendly fish. It can be territorial towards own species. This is bottom feeding species and it feeds on protozoa which develops algae. These fish also eats good quality plant food, mosquito larvae and blanched spinach.
The aquarium should have gravely substrate, round and flat stones, filtration system with strong water flow, oxygen-rich water. This species is sensitive to water quality and it easily gets diseases. A partial water exchange should be done regularly.
This is an oviparous species but it is imported. We do not have any information about breed these fish in the aquarium
