This is species of the moss from the Marchantiophyta group (hepatics or liverworts group). It grows throughout the Northern Hemisphere - also in the UK. Its natural habitats are wetlands, swamps, peatlands, morasses, coasts of rivers, creeks, streams, lakes and ponds.
This species has delicate, from bottle green to brown branching with rounded tips.
It falls on the bottom of reservoir or aquarium and it grows slowly but it forms dense structures. The species can grow upwardly and laterally. In aquarium we may arrange it in any way. We may spread clumps of the plant on the substrate. Then they will grow freely. We may also arrange the plant on the any decorative element with help the fishing line, sewing thread or special mesh. We can also form dense lawns. We can use this plant in a shrimp aquarium, breeding aquarium or other small tank. Then it should be planted in the foreground.
This is undemanding species – we don't need additional fertilization or a strong lighting. This species is often covered with algae or other mosses.
In aquarium we reproduce it vegetatively – by dividing the thallus.
