Natural habitats this species are bottoms of ponds, lakes, streams in Sri Lanka.
It has bulbous rhizome in the shape of a sphere with rosulate leaves on long leaf stems (up to 30 cm). Colour of the leaf blade is from pale green to bottle green, sometimes with maroon margins. This colour depends on age of the plant and type of the substrate. Shape of the leaf blades is variable with sinuate margins.
This species should be singly planted on the sides or at the back of the aquarium.
The plant prefers warm water - above 25°C water temperature, then it grows quickly. But this species should go dormant in the winter. Then we should reduce water temperature up to 15-18°C. This species prefers systematic partial water changes, fertile substrate (addition of the clay, peat or crushed laterite).
This is spermatophyte plant – its flower stalk is up to 80 cm long. In aquarium we can reproduce this species by seeds (the plant blooms in the spring and early autumn) or vegetatively - by dividing the rhizome.
